Construction in Hagastaden

Hagastaden has been built since 2010 on the deck over the E4/E20 motorway and the Värtabanan railway: 7,000 homes and 50,000 workplaces when complete, of which 4,000 homes and 14,000 workplaces on the Stockholm side. Here is what is being built now – the metro, the office buildings, the park and the housing blocks – and the city’s three sub-areas together with Solna’s Norra Hagastaden, due at the earliest in 2041. The green line’s opening to Arenastaden is planned for the fourth quarter of 2028, but since Region Stockholm’s review in September 2026 it is expected in the fourth quarter of 2029 – no new timetable has been decided.

The facts are read from the City of Stockholm’s, Solna municipality’s, Region Stockholm’s and the developers’ own pages, and each section shows when they were last checked. Which streets are dug up this particular week is on the city’s page of ongoing works, which we link to rather than copy.

Tunnelbanestation Hagastaden

Infrastructure · Torsplan / Hagaplan
Region Stockholm (the metro extension)

The green line’s extension from Odenplan towards Arenastaden gets its first new station here, 20 metres below ground. Four entrances off two ticket halls: in an existing building at Torsplan, on Hagaplan, inside Karolinska University Hospital, and at Karolinska Institutet where Nobels väg meets Solnavägen. T-Centralen will be seven minutes away without a change. The artist is Åsa Jungnelius, who dresses the platform hall in shades of pink with several hundred discs in the ceiling that together form the inside of a shell. The opening is planned for the fourth quarter of 2028, but since Region Stockholm’s review in September 2026 it is expected in the fourth quarter of 2029 – no new timetable has been decided. The review was published on nyatunnelbanan.se on 25 September 2026; the station page still says 2028.
